Tarping
What this involves.
When a storm tears through and a roof is suddenly open, water is the problem that cannot wait. Every hour of rain through a hole in the roof soaks insulation, stains ceilings and reaches the drywall and flooring below, and that interior damage can cost more than the roof. Emergency protection keeps the water out while the full repair or replacement is planned.
Temporary coverings, such as professionally installed tarps, limit interior water damage until a permanent repair can be made. A tarp that is only weighed down with bricks or nailed through the face of good shingles tends to fail in the next wind and can cause damage of its own. Properly secured, it holds through the weeks a claim or a material order can take.
How It Works
Free inspection
We inspect the roof and the exterior and document any damage with photos and notes.
You decide on the claim
If there is storm damage worth filing for, we help you understand what to tell your carrier. The decision is yours.
Adjuster and scope
We can meet the adjuster on site, review the carrier’s estimate against our findings, and send supplements for anything it missed.
The new roof
Once the scope is agreed and you sign, our own employees install your new roof.
The Difference
What to know before you decide.
Emergency protection is also part of the insurance picture. Most homeowner policies expect you to take reasonable steps to prevent further damage after a loss, and a policy may not cover damage that gets worse because nothing was done. Keep records of what was done and when, and photograph the damage before it is covered if you can do that safely from the ground.
Once the roof is covered we go over the rest of it. Wind that opened one area has often lifted shingles elsewhere, and hail that came with it may have damaged every slope. The inspection that follows tells you whether you are looking at a targeted repair or a replacement, and whether the storm damage is worth a claim.
While you wait, a few things help. Move furniture, electronics and anything valuable away from the leak. Put down buckets and towels. If water is pooling in a bulging ceiling, keep people out from under it. Turn off electricity to rooms where water is near fixtures or outlets. Do not climb onto a wet or damaged roof yourself.

Tarping, answered.
Does insurance pay for emergency tarping?
Many policies cover reasonable steps to prevent further damage after a covered loss. Keep records and check with your carrier.
How long can a tarp stay on a roof?
A properly secured tarp is a temporary measure meant to hold for the weeks it takes to arrange the permanent repair or replacement, not for seasons.
What should I do before help arrives?
Move valuables away from the leak, catch the water, keep people out from under a sagging ceiling, and stay off the roof.
Do you tarp commercial buildings?
Yes. We provide emergency storm protection for homes and businesses.
