What this involves.
Gutters take the same storm the roof does, and they show it more plainly. Hail dents aluminum gutters and downspouts, wind pulls them away from the fascia, and a limb that comes down across the roof edge can flatten a whole run. Dented gutters are also one of the clearest signs a homeowner can see from the ground that hail was strong enough to damage the roof above.
A dented gutter is not only cosmetic. Deep dents change how water runs and where it pools. Seams stressed by impact start to leak, and a gutter pulled loose from the fascia sends roof runoff down the face of the house and into the soil at the foundation, which matters on North Texas clay.

What to know before you decide.
When gutters are damaged in the same storm as the roof, they usually belong in the same insurance claim. During the roof inspection we check gutters and downspouts for hail dents and loose runs, photograph the damage alongside the roof damage, and include them in the documentation for the carrier.
Replacement is usually timed with the roof. New gutters hang from the fascia under the roof edge, so installing them after the new roof is on avoids damaging them during the tear-off. Downspouts get replaced where they are dented or crushed, and the runoff is directed away from the foundation.
Gutter replacement is something we take on alongside storm roof work. If the storm left dents in your gutters, start with the free roof inspection, because the roof above them has probably been hit too.

Does insurance cover hail-damaged gutters?
When the gutters were damaged by a covered storm, they are commonly included in the same claim as the roof, subject to your policy.

Are dented gutters a sign my roof was damaged?
